The Dutch jazz star joins an already fantastic billing that will include the likes of Bryn Terfel in what is sure to be a fantastic performance of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Ms Emerald has been making a huge name for herself of late and has wowed audiences during the Royal Variety Performance where Prince Charles was in attendance. She performed her hit ‘A Night Like This’ to a rapturous reception and is like to receive the same plaudits when she performs at this year’s Eisteddfod.
“I have looked at who has been on the bill in the past and there are some really iconic names. I’m really proud and humbled to have been asked to perform and I look forward to finally performing in Wales for the first time, “said Caro, otherwise known as Caroline Esmeralda van der Leeuw.
“I don’t want to give too much away about what will be included in my set list for the concert but what I will say is that the audience, my band and, of course, me are sure to have a good time!”
Caro has not just limited herself to performing on stage but in fact, with the help of a few friends, has set up her very own record label. The ambitious plan was certainly worth it as her Grandmono label produced, ‘Deleted Scenes From the Cutting Room Floor”, an album which spent an astounding 30 weeks at the top of the Dutch charts.
“I’m very happy my music has been so well received in Europe and the UK in particular. It’s really exciting especially as I come from a country as small as the Netherlands,” said Caro.
“Looking back I can see we made the right decision and I’m very proud of what we have accomplished.”
Eisteddfod Musical Director Eilir Owen Griffiths said: “We’re thrilled to have Caro Emerald here. She is a stunning talent who has made a sensational and deserved rise to international stardom.
“We want a rich diversity of music to be featured at Llangollen and our only proviso is that it must be world class and Caro Emerald certainly fits into that category.”
Other acts set to perform at this year’s event include legendary rockers Status Quo, Karl Jenkins and Britain’s Got Talent’s Richard and Adam.
