If you were in North Wales this time last year, you would have been very unlucky to miss out on the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza as it seemed like everyone from the region was getting involved. This time round, there’s no doubt that it won’t be every bit as spectacular a weekend of fun for the whole family.
This event truly is one of the real gems of the Welsh event calendar and seems to grow and grow with each year. Though by no means a small occasion, the first Extravaganza would now be a million miles away from the huge festival-like atmosphere of more recent editions. Back in 1986, the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza was launched as a way of celebrating the town’s illustrious past by showcasing some of the amazing technologies and innovations from the era. It’s certainly fair to say that it’s come a long way since then!
So, what can you look forward to this year? After you’ve been totally spellbound by the opening ceremony, some of the special acts you can enjoy include the likes of The George Formby Entertainers, Absolute Magic by Jay Gatling, juggling with Chris Marley, the School of Dance with Linzi Grace and more. Check out the full timetable here for a full list of what’s going on over the three day event.
Along with these enticing shows and displays, all of the stalls and small exhibitions from last year will be out in force again and will doubtlessly prove just as popular. You can enjoy all of the traditional carnival games such as the duck pond, shooting games, coconut shy and many games of skill and chance during Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Prefer your attractions to be a little more high-octane ? Then how does being hundreds of feet in the air with a dizzying view of Llandudno to take in sound instead? Well you’ll have the chance at the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza this year as the Ferris wheel has become a real staple of the event. If you’d prefer something slightly more gently paced or an attraction suited for the kids, there are great carousels available throughout Mostyn Street and beyond. Why not also check out some of the QR codes that are dotted around the town to find out more about its heritage?
There is also an event going on in tandem with the Extravaganza and it is the Llandudno Transport Festival. As the largest of its kind throughout Wales, expect this brilliant celebration of all things transport to be attended in numbers by those with a soft spot for the past. You can easily arrive at either of these events via a free shuttle-bus service.
With this and an enthralling air show to also look forward to, there is definitely only one place you should be at over the 3rd, 4th and 5th of May this year.
