It’s likely you’ve already started thinking about buying Christmas presents by now. Sometimes it can be a challenge to find a unique and personal present that the person you’re buying for will truly appreciate.
Getting all your shopping online from huge retailers is very easy – but have you thought about supporting some local businesses this year? With them being so accessible to you and many having physical stores you can visit, it reduces the worry of the presents you ordered turning up on Boxing Day!
We’ve compiled a list of some local businesses that we think have some fantastic gift ideas. Let’s face it – many of us have been a little bit disappointed after receiving a very well-known and rather unpleasant smelling body wash and spray set for the fifth year in a row. Try something a little different this year and surprise your friends and family with something they’ll truly enjoy.
There’s always that one thrill-seeker and outdoors enthusiast within your friend or family circle – so treat them to an activity day or even a holiday adventure, depending on your budget.
Dragon Raiders – Dragon Raiders is an activity park situated in the Llyn Peninsula, Snowdonia. 30 acres of forest have been dedicated to fun-filled activities such as paintballing, segways and the exclusive Bear Grylls Survival Academy days.
The Bear Grylls Adventure courses allow both adults and children to learn invaluable survival skills, such as building fires and huts, as well as learning which plants and berries in the wild are edible. You’ll be tested at the end with a rather challenging obstacle course! These Bear Grylls adventure courses are exclusive to Dragon Raiders and are a fantastic experience.
There are gift vouchers available to buy for each activity, and are valid for up to 12 months after their purchase.
Adventurous Ewe – Adventurous Ewe takes keen explorers on some truly fantastic adventures. Their team of experienced and knowledgeable tour leaders guide explorers on walking treks and cycling trips not only in the UK – but around the world. UK trekking trips include those to Snowdon, the 3 Peaks and the Welsh 3000’s. If you fancy going further afield – treat someone (and perhaps yourself) to a Patagonia, Iceland, Kilimanjaro, Everest or Sahara adventure.
Booking an adventure holiday with professional guides makes it a whole lot safer, should anything go wrong. If you’re planning on gifting someone an adventure trek from Adventurous Ewe, it gives you peace of mind that they’ll be in capable and professional hands, especially in some of the more extreme climates.
If the previous suggestions are a little bit too extreme, or out of your price range, you could treat your adventure seeking friends to one of Adventurous Ewe’s activity days. Give them the chance to try gorge walking or white water rafting within the gorgeous landscape of Snowdonia.
Fine wine and luxury clothes are always a reliable Christmas gift!
Good Wine Online – This Company has a massive range of wines to choose from. Every single wine featured on their website is tried and tested by the owners, and if it’s not a good one – they won’t sell it! Favouring small wine companies which only produce small batches of wine (that definitely can’t be found on the high street!) you’re sure to find a unique wine to gift someone.
They’re also the UK market leader for sulphite free wines, which are safe for those with sulphite allergies to drink and have been rumoured to reduce hangovers! The wines on their website are clearly labelled as to whether they’re gluten free, organic, vegan and sustainably farmed. Fantastic whilst looking for wines for those with dietary requirements.
Unlike many online wine stockists which make you order over a certain amount of bottles before qualifying for delivery, Good Wine Online do not have a minimum order requirement. This is great if you’re only looking to buy a certain wine for one person.
Duckworths – Duckworths have both an online store and a shop in Colwyn Bay. Duckworths sell a range of products, including clothing, souvenirs/gifts and tobacco pipes. Many of their products are Welsh themed – so would suit those who like to show off their Welsh pride!
Duckworths also sell a big range of Welsh Rugby shirts, for men, women, and even babies. If you know someone who’s going to a Wales rugby match in the forthcoming year, it’s the perfect gift.
They also sell luxury leather hip flasks and a huge range of high quality tobacco pipes, many of which are luxury brands which would easily be recognised by those who regularly use pipes.
Manshop – For those familiar with Colwyn Bay, you’ve likely walked by the Manshop in the past. They’ve now moved onto online sales, but still offer the same high quality products. Manshop specialise in and sell luxury clothes for larger men, including suits, waistcoats, cotton pyjamas, and ties.
It can be difficult to find clothes which fit you well from stores that only stock standard sizes. At Manshop, they aim to provide up to a 60” chest in their suit range.
Their Italian knitwear range is pure luxury. The 100% Merino wool jumpers means that your gift receiver will have a very toasty Christmas!
They’ve also got some fantastic offers on at the moment – including a 3 for 2 on all suit jackets, trousers and waistcoats. Grab a bargain and gift someone an incredibly sharp suit for Christmas, which is perfect for upcoming New Year dinners and parties.

The Black Boy Inn also has some really luxurious and traditional style rooms available to spend the weekend in. Featuring low oak beams and plush four poster beds, treating someone you care about to a night (or few!) in the Black Boy Inn is truly a delight.
The Black Boy Inn offers gift cards ranging from £25 – £300, if you’d rather let the person you’re gifting book a table in the restaurant or a room in the hotel in their own time.
Bryn Tyrch – The Bryn Tyrch is a country-chic hotel and restaurant situated in Capel Curing, within the Snowdonia National Park. Their modern rooms and country setting make it a wonderful place to spend the weekend.
Each room is named after a region within Snowdonia, and features an individual colour scheme. You can choose which room you’d like to stop in when you book.
Their restaurant offers up some really tasty food, and even creates packed lunches and picnic hampers for those ready to brave a mountain walk. Wild mushroom risotto, crab linguine and Welsh rump steak are just a few of the options on the menu.
The Groes Inn– The Groes Inn, situated near Snowdonia National Park is a traditional British inn. The Groes Inn has a fantastic restaurant and two dining spaces to enjoy your delicious food. There’s a choice of the large dining room with an airy conservatory and the cosy traditional pub room with a roaring log fire. Not only do they offer lovely food, they have some really gorgeous hotel rooms to stop in.
What’s good about the Groes Inn is that they’ve always got great offers on, including a 10% discount on stays that are longer than 3 days! Additionally, if you’ve got a dog, you don’t need to worry about leaving him home when you book with The Groes Inn, as they’ve very dog friendly.
Treating someone to a hearty lunch or cosy stay at the Groes Inn is a wonderful Christmas gift for those who love good food, luxury hotel rooms, and hate leaving their dog at home.
Ty’n Rhos – The Ty’n Rhos is a five star country house and restaurant. Each of their hotel rooms are decorated uniquely and luxuriously, with their restaurant offering some really incredible food.
Vouchers are available to purchase from Ty’n Rhos, and are created to your personal amount of choice. Why not treat someone you care about to a five star break in the scenic landscape of Snowdonia this Christmas?
The vouchers can also be used in the restaurant. Ty’n Rhos offer a really lovely afternoon tea package in their cosy lounge or conservatory between 3pm – 5pm on Mondays and Saturdays!
They’ve got a 3 for 2 nights offer on at the moment, which is available until the end of February. A fantastic deal for you, and a wonderful weekend for the person that you’re gifting.
Something a Bit Different
Is there something your friend or family member has needed for a while now? Or perhaps they’ve been hinting for something a little bit different this year. Here’s your chance to surprise them with it.
Pepeloves – You’ve probably been questioning your dog all year on whether he’s good boy or not. If he has been, maybe he deserves a Christmas treat too! Pepeloves is an online pet store which stocks dog collars, beds, designer dog clothes, food and grooming accessories.
Treat your pampered pooch to an incredibly cute bow tie, tartan bandana or a luxurious lambswool cable knit sweater. The ultra comfy Bowl & Bone beds are sure to keep your dog (or a friends) snug over the winter months.
Enjoy a good cup of tea? Now your dog can enjoy one too with the Woof & Brew range of herbal teas, designed specifically for dogs. There’s also a range of paraben-free dog shampoos and misting sprays, to keep him or her smelling fresh (we recommend the rose & bergamot scent).
TH1 – TH1 is a hair salon in Bangor, offering a range of hair care services by an award winning team. Not only do they offer premium haircuts and colouring, they also offer services such as permanent waving, deep conditioning treatments and hair extensions.
If someone you know has been fancying a change in hair colour or style, a gift voucher to a hair salon might just be the perfect gift. Once they’ve used it and received the hair colour or cut that they’ve been wanting for a while, they can thank you for their confidence boosting change!
Mobility Products 4 U – Make life that little bit comfier and easier for someone you know this Christmas and buy them a massage recliner chair. Not only do they aid in helping people get up, they’re also built to be incredibly comfy.
If you know someone who uses a scooter or wheelchair to travel – Mobility Products 4 U has got plenty of accessories for them. Their range of quilted wheelchair covers and cushions are ideal for the winter season. The wheelchair hand muff is an essential product for those whose hands are getting a little nippy outdoors this winter!
