After a massively exciting 2013 which saw places all over North Wales come to life with the sound of revving engines, the Wales Rally GB is back for 2014!
It only seems like yesterday that talented racers from far and wide descended on the less beaten paths of the region, but it’s here again and we’re hoping for more of the same after the great boost it brought for the area’s economy and profile. So you can imagine that it’s only going to be fantastic that this year’s rally is being focused mainly on the north of Wales this time out.
Held from the 13th until the 16th of November, it will take in many parts of the area and will kick off from Colwyn Bay instead of Conwy this time around on Thursday evening. Eirias Park has become a real beacon for culture over the past couple of years and you can’t deny that it deserves to be the location for the Ceremonial Start of such a lucrative event.
The action truly gets underway with the first stage to be held throughout Dyfi, Gartheiniog and Hafren Sweet Lamb. These rural areas are the perfect spots for competitive rallying action so get there if you want to see some WRC masters tear up the road!
Saturday’s action sees the rally enter more populated areas as it makes its way through the Deeside Service Park and into the night – the stages of the rally which take place when the sun goes down are a sight to behold.
The race comes to a frenetic halt on Sunday when the leaderboard will be decided after a hugely challenging few stages. The 10.59km power stage at Brenig will be the place where the true masters of the road make themselves known before the picturesque finale situated around Lake Brenig.
Once the dust has settled and the racers claim their spot in rallying history, the winners will be paraded around Llandudno along Mostyn Street. With 23 stages of glorious competition to look forward, this year’s rally should be an unforgettable one.
