The Welsh Government has launched a special campaign to help the world discover Wales as the world’s capital of adventure tourism. The natural landscapes throughout Wales have meant that much development has gone into the creation of fantastic activities and easing of access to the natural wonders of Wales.
Many know Wales as an area of the world with almost all types of landscape. From mountains, valleys and hills, to lakes, rivers and seas, Wales really does have a variation of some of the most rugged environments in the world. This has made the country the perfect destination for all types of outdoor sports, adventures and activities.
While Wales has been known for decades for its outdoor activities and attractions, huge recent developments have seen several attractions command the attention of worldwide media, with adrenaline attractions such as Surf Snowdonia and Zip World.
The Welsh adventure factor offers a brilliant opportunit for PR North Wales.
These two new attractions turned heads all over the globe. The new Surf Snowdonia inland surfing arena achieved new heights for any Welsh attraction, featuring in many of the world’s biggest media outlets and welcoming thousands of visitors in their inaugural year of operation. Zip World, Europe’s largest zip wire and Adventure Park that even boasts an underground cave trampoline arena named Bounce Below has enjoyed a growing number of visitors, as the news spreads of the fun to be had there.
Activities that are achievable through Wales’ environment and industry built to cater for visiting adventurers include the likes of mountain biking, sailing, climbing, gorge walking, kayaking, hiking and the list goes on.
The Welsh Government plans to build upon the success of the high adrenaline and adventure activities in the area by declaring 2016 the Wales Year of Adventure. Officially underway, the campaign has been launched by Visit Wales and will support and help organisations throughout the country to join in on their adventures. Those who are sharp may have spotted advertisements on television, adding to the momentum of the campaign that aims to begin showcasing the best of Wales. Coronation Street and Pobol Y Cwm have so far hosted the adverts, shot by one of Wales’ leading directors that capture the inspiring scenes and environments that Wales has to offer.
There are a number of ambassadors that will be pushing the campaign, including TV star Bear Grylls, Tori James (the youngest British woman to conquer Everest), Richard Parks (rugby player turned explorer) and cyclist world record holder Maria Leijerstam.
The entire campaign goes beyond adrenaline fuelled sports. Visit Wales encourages tourism attractions of all types to join in and build up a reputation for itself among travellers who want to enjoy Wales’ offerings. It could be anything from the wonderful coastal sunsets over the sea, a wonderful welsh meal or baking traditional welsh cakes.
